Robotic-assisted gynecological surgery.

During a robotic-assisted procedure, WHASN West Valley uses a video-equipped surgical robot with extreme precision to allow them to complete the surgery using as few as one very small incision rather than one large incision.

The surgeon operates the robotic system using a bedside console or computer and can see highly detailed, magnified images of the operation site despite the size of the incisions.

The result is greater precision, lower risk of blood loss, and faster recovery time for patients.

How many follow-up appointments are required?

Because of the rapid recovery period after non-invasive surgery, most patients report back for 1 or 2 follow-up appointments at specific intervals after the procedure.

Who is eligible for robotic-assisted gynecological surgeries?

Patients who have a condition that can be treated through robotic-assisted surgery and who are in fair medical condition to withstand surgery are generally strong candidates. In some cases, advanced age or morbid obesity may disqualify a patient from a procedure.

However, this isn’t unique to robotic-assisted surgeries; it applies to both robotic-assisted and traditional surgical methods.

Risks associated with robotic-assisted surgeries

All surgery comes with inherent risk, whether invasive or non-invasive. The risk of complications from anesthesia or the procedure itself are possible and vary greatly between procedures and patients. A thorough review of the patient’s medical history is essential in avoiding potential complications.

Robotic-assisted surgery reduces some risks, including the risk of blood loss, infection in the wound, blood clots in the legs, and pneumonia. There’s also less pain with recovery and a quicker recovery time.
